Chapter News

One of the key reasons that we exist as a chapter is to allow the local project management community to network.  We are now no longer limited to face to face networking – we have moved into the 21st century and have three active social media outlets.  Please join our online community by
·         Liking us on Facebook - let the group know you are attending our events here and see who will be there with you.
·         Joining our LinkedIn group – join the conversation with nearly 4,000 members of the local project management community.
·         Follow us on Twitter (@PMI_MN) – We’ll send out tweets with reminders for upcoming events and thought provoking ideas from our various presentations.  We would also like to create some common hash tags for relevant  tweets – if you have ideas, please tweet them to @PMI_MN or send your thoughts to communications@pmi-mn.org.

We are a great chapter! We rank high among all the PMI chapters around the globe. How high? We’re typically in the top 20 out of hundreds.

We are great because people like you volunteer their time. Because you know what we want in terms of professional career advancement, you are best suited to help us deliver the services. And the benefits are great, too! Volunteering in a professional organization is an opportunity to work with peers outside your normal business, and do the things you have aspired to!

I have been volunteering with our chapter for over 10 years. My first introduction was when I started attending the chapter dinners. I spoke with Mohamed Mandour (one of our past presidents) who pointed out we were a volunteer run organization. But I worked in St Cloud and it was a long drive to the Twin Cities. I asked about starting a chapter in St Cloud. I was told about another member and volunteer, Steve Hawrysh, who was also trying get something going in St Cloud.

I met up with Steve, we talked, and he set up the first dinner meeting in St Cloud. I volunteered to help! That meeting became an ongoing program, under the “Community Outreach” committee. And it grew. And the idea grew, as we added more communities throughout the state, because more people like you volunteered to help out. And along the way I grew, meeting lots of members and folks interested in the profession, speaking at various events, handling a wide variety of issues – and picking up new perspectives. Those are the real rewards!

So how do you volunteer? As a chapter we have moved to a new PMI (global) based system called VRMS (Volunteer Resource Management System). It’s part of your PMI member profile. By the way, have you updated you profile lately? Click here to update it.

When you go to that link, you can review your profile, update your PMI volunteer service interests and add any volunteer history. Your service history includes details on your previously held PMI volunteer experience, PMI events you attended, and PMI awards and scholarships you received. And you can list the areas you are interested in volunteering for! Click on “Select areas of interest” and indicate you want to be emailed opportunities as they arise. Or click the “Volunteer” tab and search for opportunities – opportunities in your own backyard and around the globe! Step forward and volunteer!

New Member Orientation Sessions (held monthly)
Welcome newcomers and current members! PMI-MN offers a new member orientation session starting at 6:00 pm before each month’s Chapter dinner meeting.
You don’t actually need to be a new member—or a member at all—to attend this orientation session! This is a great way to check out the Chapter. If you haven’t been to many Chapter events (or it’s been a long time), come and get re-acquainted with what our Chapter is all about!
Check the upcoming month’s dinner meeting details on the Chapter website for time and place of the Member Orientation session.
