Here are the networking, professional, and leadership development activities we offered with and for you in 2016:
Yep, we have been busy, and we could not have done it without the incredible dedication of our volunteers, members, speakers and administrative personnel. Thanks to everyone who provided their time and talent to make 2016 a great year. We look forward to an energizing 2017, starting with our January events, Volunteer Appreciation Gala, first annual Student Conference, and a roll-out of new networking activities. Another incentive to renew your PMI-MN membershipWhat do you value about being a member of the PMI Minnesota chapter? Is it the professional and personal development opportunities each month? Is it the networking opportunities? Is it the easy ways to earn PDUs? Is it through volunteering? We hope you are taking advantage of all these things and are excited about renewing your membership when it is due. If you are on the fence, just a little bit, we’ve introduced another incentive to renew before your membership lapses. In each quarter of 2017 we will give a $200 gift card to one lucky person who renews before their membership lapses. This is in addition to our ongoing monthly drawing for a $50 gift card. There’s nothing to do to enter except renew your PMI and chapter membership. Career Networking News:Turnout for the December meeting was the highest we have ever had in Plymouth (17 people). Phil Almeroth, Practice Leader at LogiSolve, shared invaluable and unique insights on the upcoming employment trends for both consulting and permanent placements; traits of a great project manager; how to tell YOUR story and leave interviewers wanting more; and the importance of developing relationships with recruiting agencies. Last but not least, remember to update your resume every three months, to change positions every two years, and to keep building your toolbox (by also getting out of your comfort zone)! There was so much group participation that we ran over our planned hour duration. Our next event will be held in conjunction with the chapter dinner on January 16. Volunteer of the Month:Congratulations, Sasha Denisova! Our chapter is constantly looking for additional and better ways to communicate with its members and the local Project Management community. A key element of this communication strategy is connecting through social media channels. Prior to Sasha joining the Communications team the chapter had not been posting information about our events and initiating conversations on a regular basis. Sasha has been instrumental in increasing the number of posts in our LinkedIn Group, Facebook page, and Twitter feed with multiple posts each week. In doing this we have increased the number of members of our LinkedIn group (our most effective social media channel) by nearly 1000 members this year to break the 4000 member barrier. Thank you, Sasha, for helping us get the word out about our events and the value of being a part of PMI-MN. The Program Management Improvement and Accountability Act (PMIAA) was passed 30 November by the U.S. Senate. The bill will now go to the President for his signature and enactment. This legislation is a landmark achievement that will make improvements to program and project management policy across the U.S. government. » Read more Gwenn Doria, Digital Marketing Team Leader for The PM Podcast, shared a series of free interviews, allowing our chapter members to earn 5.25 Free PDUs just by listening. These interviews were all recorded by Cornelius Fichtner, PMP at the recent PMI Global Congress in San Diego and feature 14 of the congress speakers, reviewing their papers. This is a great opportunity for anyone who was unable to attend the congress to learn more about relevant topics in project management today. Plus they get free PDUs. » Read more 17 PMI-MN Members earned their PMP® designation in October.
