Were those the winds of change? As Terri Kimball wrote last year, “Spring is a time of rejuvenation: everything around us is new and fresh. Spring is also a great time to refresh and reinvigorate your career goals.” So true! We held our February Volunteer Fair a few weeks ago. Volunteering is one way to expose yourself to new career paths, network with others, try out some new experiences, set new goals. And it was a very successful Volunteer Fair, lots of really neat gifts for attendees from a new sponsor, who only requested a “toast to diversity”. We saw lots of new faces, new members and old. More folks pursuing PMI certification – did you know PMI now offers 8 different certifications? As more of us swing into Agile roles, and build on the job experience, now might be the time to consider the PMI-ACP®. Did you know there are two certification paths for Business Analysts: our long-time chapter partner IIBA offers one, as does PMI with its PMI-PBA®. Worth checking out just for the controversy, eh? In any case, certifications are a great way to give yourself an edge in the marketplace, not to mention the feeling of accomplishment and achievement! A lot of the folks who had visited the Volunteer Fair arrived even earlier for one of the PrCs (Practitioner Communities, e.g. Healthcare, Manufacturing) or special sessions (e.g. new members, career assistance) that take place before the dinner meeting. Of course that day was just one of the many PMI-MN get-togethers that take place throughout MN and ND. So come on, Spring has sprung, meet new people, check out the opportunities with PMI-MN – where we make dreams become reality! Chris Doyle Chapter News9th Annual Career FairThe 9th Annual Career Fair is Monday, April 17th from 3:30 - 6:00pm. This is a great event to attend if you are looking for new career opportunites and to network with other professionals. There will be firms looking for new project management professionals. You will also have the chance to learn interviewing skills, and to a make a memorable professional impression. You will also get the opportunity to take a professional digital photograph that you can use to help you stand out on Linked In and other professional websites. We hope to see you there! Joe Perzel is speaking on March 20 on Selling the Value of the PMO and Project Managers to Management. Joe would love to have your input on how your organizations view their PMOs and Project Managers so that he can provide the most relevant advice on how to promote the value of your work. The survey takes five minutes and asks just a few questions about the strengths and opportunities for improvement for your Project Managers and PMO. Whether you are planning to attend the dinner or not, please help us by participating in the survey. Results from the survey will be posted on March 20. February Volunteer of the Month: Brandon OlsonBrandon has been a volunteer for several years, managing the NE MN Outreach program (Duluth MN / Superior WI). Last year he agreed to take the Co-Chair position for the Community and Outreach Department. Both as a program manager and now as co-chair, Brandon has traveled to all the MN Outreach programs to meet with the managing teams and assisted with the community programs. Brandon has also been an active speaker and presented at a number of Outreach events and the PDD. As a representative of St. Scholastica University (a PMI-MN partner and Outreach sponsor), he has helped in partnering with other colleges and in increasing student interest in PMI PMI-MN would like to thank Brandon for his time and dedication. New Member Orientation Sessions (held monthly)
Welcome newcomers and current members! PMI-MN offers a new member orientation session starting at 6:00 pm before each month’s Chapter dinner meeting.
You don’t actually need to be a new member—or a member at all—to attend this orientation session! This is a great way to check out the Chapter. If you haven’t been to many Chapter events (or it’s been a long time), come and get re-acquainted with what our Chapter is all about!
Check the upcoming month’s dinner meeting details on the Chapter website for time and place of the Member Orientation session.
PMI Minnesota Chapter members who renewed in the month of January were automatically entered into the drawing. Using a random number generator, each month we pick 1 winner who will recieve a $50 VISA gift card.
January’s gift card goes to Stephanie Wolle. She has been a member for 2 years. Congratulations Shephanie, and thank you for your continued support and involvement.
