Message from the Chapter President

Dear Members,

Are you taking full advantage of your PMI membership? There is a wealth of knowledge just a mouse-click away to help members navigate through a variety of project challenges. Need sample templates or tutorials on specific tasks? Check out projectmanagement.com for webinars, blogs, articles and solutions provided by project professionals from around the world. Wondering what happened to your favorite communities of practice?   Projectmanagement.com is also the new home for practice areas. So, whether you need help on risk management, motivating your team, creating traceability matrices or balancing a strategic portfolio, you will find the support you need. When you log in using your PMI credentials you get access to all of the premium content at no additional charge (a $249 value).

Have you checked out the Learning tab on pmi.org lately? You will find academic research, reports, the annual salary survey, and a job board. Download any of 16 standards and practice guides for free from the PMBOK® Guide and Standards tab. Explore the website and you will find case studies, white papers, certification information, and online courses.

As a PMI-MN chapter member, you can access monthly free webinars and local practitioner communities, attend networking events, sign up for volunteer opportunities, follow conversations on our LinkedIn group, and receive discounts on Chapter events. Log into the pmi-mn.org website to access local job postings. Your $30 annual membership enables you to take advantage of a $10 discount on all breakfast and dinner meetings, save $150 on a PMP® exam prep class and $100 for each day of PDD, our annual conference, plus a free professional photo at the annual Career Fair each April. Total potential annual savings? Over $750. Not a chapter member? What are you waiting for!

Chapter News

Congratulations to Amy Banger, March 2016 PMI-MN Volunteer of the Month

Amy Bangen has been a long-standing member of PMI-MN. She has been a solid member of the Sponsorship Committee since its inception and has developed the Delivery Program from scratch for all of our sponsors. Without her behind the scenes efforts, we would not have sponsors returning year after year. Amy has contributed to the successful functioning of the sponsorship committee by her continued commitment to Sponsorship Delivery and by writing the majority of the playbooks and documentation needed for continued functioning. This year she took on a newly developed Delivery Lead position training all new volunteers on how to handle the role. Additionally, she has completely reorganized the Sponsorship SharePoint page, spending multiple sessions with Synergos and others to smooth the process of scheduling, placement, billing and other aspects of the Sponsorship process. In short, her willing participation has been invaluable.

  • 5:00-5:45 pm - "Taming Stress to Find Brilliance" presented by Jane Schuette

Taming Stress to Find Brilliance presented by Jane Schuette
    Speaker
    Jane Schuette
Speaker Jane Schuette The American Institute of Stress reports that 44% of Americans feel more stressed than they did five years ago. In fact, one in five American’s experience extreme stress: shaking, heart palpitation, depression. For project managers, the numbers are undoubtedly higher.

Good news! People who practice conscious stress management are healthier, more effective, and can pass their tranquility on to their peers, clients, customers and family.

    I will teach you:

    • how stress impacts your performance
    • to identify stressors and how they block your success
    • simple yet powerful tools and ideas to find peace and your personal brilliance

This session will provide recommendations to make small, yet meaningful long-term changes in your life. Using these effective tools, you can engage with brilliance and produce the best you possible.

PDU Reporting Reminder

The PMI-MN Chapter will report PDUs on your behalf for chapter events you attend (breakfast, dinner, seminars and Professional Development Days) if you register and pay via our third party vendor, TicketWorks.

If you register for an event through the PMI-MN website, after you click on the “REGISTER” button, the next screen shows the talent triangle category where the PDU will be awarded.

We report the PDUs for the credentialed attendees based upon the confirmed attendance report we receive from TicketWorks and our webstreaming team.

Two things to pay special attention to when registering for an event that may cause us to not be able to auto-report the PDU on your behalf is your membership number and your name of record in the Global system.  Many times when registering, people provide their credential number and not their member number in which case we are unable to report the PDU for you.  Same with the name you provide when registering, if it is different than the name in the Global system associated with a specific membership number, we are unable to report the PDU for you.

New Member Orientation Sessions (held monthly)
Welcome newcomers and current members! PMI-MN offers a new member orientation session starting at 6:00 pm before each month’s Chapter dinner meeting.
You don’t actually need to be a new member—or a member at all—to attend this orientation session! This is a great way to check out the Chapter. If you haven’t been to many Chapter events (or it’s been a long time), come and get re-acquainted with what our Chapter is all about!
Check the upcoming month’s dinner meeting details on the Chapter website for time and place of the Member Orientation session.
