Dear Members, Summer is a time for relaxing and taking things a bit slower than the rest of the year, as we plan our lives around outdoor activities and family vacations. In June and July, PMI-MN takes a break from dinner meetings, but there are still development and networking events you can participate in during the next 60 days. Wake up with the sun and join us for breakfast meetings each month. Bring your lunch and laptop outside for a free webinar on managing requirements. Get out of the office for a day and attend a seminar on harnessing Agile principles for programs and organizations (that’s right, Agile works for every area of your organization). Summer is also a great time to review or create your learning plan. The Minnesota Chapter has successfully deployed the PMI Talent Triangle across all of our educational offerings. You will know the applicable skill area prior to registering for a class, webinar, dinner meeting or event. And we automatically report PDUs for all chapter activities that require registration. What could be easier? That leaves just one thing for you, a learning plan. What skills do you want to develop? How many PDUs do you need before renewing your certification? Start by logging into my.pmi.org. Your CCRS Dashboard displays your current PDUs by skill area and lists any remaining requirements. You can match your needs (Leadership, Technical, or Strategic/Business) with the description of every event on the PMI-MN.org website. Now, relax on a lounge chair and browse through the brochure for our annual Professional Development Days (PDD), which has color-coded each class. Plan complete. Did you know that you can earn PDUs by volunteering for the Chapter? Or giving a presentation? Or mentoring a junior colleague? The CCR Handbook provides a complete list of ways that you can earn PDUs. And while you are thinking about giving back to your profession, visit our PMI-Minnesota LinkedIn group and start a discussion. You’ll find our group link at the top of our website. Terri Kimball, PMP Chapter NewsJoin Our Paint-A-Thon Team! Each year since 1964 the Greater Minneapolis Council of Churches has organized the Metro Paint-A-Thon to help low-income seniors and people with permanent physical disabilities live independently in their own homes longer. Each summer teams of volunteers paint home exteriors in Hennepin and Ramsey counties for those who are not able to do the maintenance themselves and cannot afford to hire a contractor. This service, offered at no cost to the homeowner, restores not only the homes we paint but also the homeowner’s sense of pride in their property and community. Volunteers from PMI-Minnesota have been proud to participate in this event for more than 10 years. If you like working in the outdoors, painting, volunteering for social good, or all of the above, join our PMI-MN team. Join Dan Hill, who will be leading our team effort this year, by sending your contact information to paintathon@pmi-mn.org. Prep Day is on Saturday July 30 and Paint Day is Saturday August 6 (weather permitting). We will be partnering again this year with Community United Methodist Church of Columbia Heights to repaint the trim, caulk windows, paint the garage, and stain a deck and wheelchair ramp on a house in northeast Minneapolis. There is a lot of work to be done and we would love to have a small army of volunteers. You don’t have to be an expert – just willing to help out a person in need in the community. As a thank you for our volunteers and members, we will be hosting a networking cruise around the downtown St Paul leg of the Mississippi River on Saturday July 16th at noon. The Paddleford Riverboat cruise moves though St. Paul’s downtown harbor and the Mississippi National Great River Park. Onboard commentary will provide a bit of the historical background of the area. There is a chance we’ll spot bald eagles, herons, egrets and falcons as we travel about. There is no charge, but space is limited. If you are interested, please send an email to ChairVolunteer@pmi-mn.org with your contact information and member ID. We will be publishing more details about the cruise later this month. Sure it’s hot, the blazing Minnesota sun has you totally focused on graduations, the cabin, and the last thing on your mind is far, far away September... Wake-up! Smell the coffee! Professional Development Days (PDD) is just around the corner. Early registration is already open. Register now, before you forget! This year’s dates are September 12-15, 2016, and we’re conveniently at the St. Paul RiverCentre. PDD is our chapter's and the local profession's largest event of the year, attracting over 1,000 attendees. PDD will provide more than 50 information packed sessions, 40+ corporate participants and a gazillion networking possibilities! Great restaurants and bistros are nearby to extend your networking time with colleagues. RiverCentre faces the mighty Mississippi, with walkways and biking. Plenty of after-hours fun too and don’t forget to join PMI-MN Members, PDD Speakers and participants at the 1st Annual PMI-MN Speaker Receptions during PDD. How can you pass that up? What are you waiting for?
