Projects would be straightforward if it were not for the people. And, whenever you have two people in a room, you have politics. So, as project managers, we need to become adept at understanding the political environment of our
projects, and also at engaging positively with our stakeholders at a political as well as at a transactional level.
This seminar will explore the issues and help you build your toolkit.
Our discussion will include:
• Understanding the Stakeholder Landscape
• Mapping out Webs of Political Influence
• Understanding Power Bases
• Understanding which Battles to Fight
• Crafting an Influential Message
• Building a Communication Campaign
Dr Mike Clayton has been a lifelong learner. Following his PhD, he worked in Project Management consulting for the London office of Deloitte, working with global and large national clients. It was there he learned the importance of active stakeholder engagement and positive involvement in project politics – both within his client projects and within the wider consulting firm.
Since 2002, Mike has been a trainer, author, speaker, and trusted advisor, launching his online PM training business in 2016. OnlinePMCourses.com now has nearly 5,000 students and a far wider community using his free content, which includes on 3,000 word autoritative article, and two videos, every week. Now, Mike is an active YouTuber, with around 45,000 subscribers to his PM channel at https://www.youtube.com/onlinepmcourses. This makes it one of the largest active YouTube channels for project managers. But, because project managers also need to know a lot more than just pure project management skils, he also launched a new channel, Management Courses, to provide basic professional skils and management training at no cost, for his global community.
