As the speed of business increases, so the traditional approaches to project delivery need to adapt and adjust. Nowhere is that truer than in change management. Historic change management was focused on controlling change and minimizing disruption. Modern change management is about embracing change as an inevitable part of project delivery and ensuring that change is integrated as easily and quickly as possible.

Achieving that requires project managers and teams to:

• Be more empowered in their ownership of change
• Be prepared for more frequent, smaller scale change
• Own change, driving it through when needed without first getting formal approval

This is a big shift for project teams, and perhaps an even bigger shift for the leaders who have historically controlled change through formal review and approval. However, it is the only way projects can be effective and efficient in today’ fast paced world.
